Howard Hughes supported the production of Diamonds are Forever. A manager of one of his hotels in Las Vegas wanted to bar the team to film in an elevator. Hughes sent a message: Please tell Cubby (Albert R. Broccoli) that he may film in any of my hotels at any time.

For the chase in the streets of Las Vegas in the Mustang Mach 1, Ford provided eight Mustangs. Fremont Street had to be closed for three nights to enable the stuntmen to prepare the chase. The drive of the Mustang on two wheels to escape the police was filmed in three locations: Universal Studios in Southern California, Fremont Street in Las Vegas and Pinewood Studios in England.

Raquel Welch, Jane Fonda and Faye Dunaway had been considered for the role of Tiffany Case. However, Jill St. John who was supposed to play only a little role, was chosen by director Guy Hamilton as ideal casting.

After Lazenby had played Bond in Her Majesty's Secret Service, Connery had a comeback for one movie in Diamonds Are Forever.

Cast: James Bond - Sean Connery; M - Bernard Lee; Moneypenny - Lois Maxwell; Q - Desmond Llewelyn; Tiffany Case - Jill St. John; Blofeld - Charles Gray

Today's instructions for our MI-6 hero are:
Bond, we've always accepted a percentage of diamond smuggling. But over the past two years, despite all precautions, it's gone up alarmingly. Even more alarming is the fact that none of the stones have reached the market. What we need to know is who the stockpilers are. You're going to Holland. For some time now we've had our eyes on professional a smuggler Peter Franks. He is about to travel to Amsterdam.

Was a little disappointed in the final leg of this journey, was hoping to include an historical flight appropriate for the age of the movie. Unfortunately the Boeing 727 I have in my virtual hanger has the same translucent properties at night time as I have with my CLS A330. So instead I had to go LAX-LAS by a United 739.

Oh I forgot to mention, a UA gate agent tried to 're-accommodate' 007 off the flight. JB was not for moving however and his Walther PPK convinced the gate agent of the error of their ways!

Definitely a Boeing theme to this. firstly LHR-AMS...

That's a great travel report, Aidan. Originally 007 was flying Lufthansa across the pond, I believe.

I think you are right but 007's PIREP would be rejected as LH AMS-LAX is not a real-world schedule.

That was a lot of nice sightseeing!

Someday I will go a visit Scotland, especially the area around the Bens.

Actually LH452 had a routing EDDF-EHAM-KLAX at that time. Still it's not (yet) in our DB.

If I remember correctly, in the movie it was an LH450 with that routing.

I had forgotten James Bond came to Amsterdam too! I love the Dutch Queen, too bad she is slowly being phased out. Gotta fly her before she is gone!

You still got time Michel, the last one will be phased out somewhere in 2021.
